SMUS ’16 Mechanical Engineering Student Michael Salmas visited the eco-tourism ship Cascadia at Point Hope Maritime Ltd. in Victoria, as the ship gets ready for the 2021 season. MV Cascadia is a beautiful 24 passenger vessel registered in Victoria and operates cruises along the coast of British Columbia. Michael met with Iain Mill of 3GA Marine Ltd. To learn about opportunities in the maritime industry for mechanical engineers as part of the SMUS Alumni Association mentoring program.
The Cascadia is operated by Maple Leaf Adventures of which Maureen Gordon SMUS ’88 is co-owner and Manager, Marketing and Sales.
Philip Woodcock (SMUS ’90) of Wyndward Maritime Ltd is Michael’s mentor in the program and arranged both the introduction to 3GA and the shipyard tour.
Michael and Philip were introduced by Matt Ashton SMUS’13 who is the Honorable Secretary and mentorship coordinator of the Alumni Association. Tom Erlic SMUS ’88 and co-founder of motion control company Polaris Motion also mentors Michael.
